Background I
was born in West Germany in 1964 to a German mother and Scottish
father. In
1971 after years of travelling around through my father’s career
in the army,
we moved to Australia to start a new life. I
have been working as an artist since 1993, and received a Visual Arts
Degree
from Edith Cowan University in Western Australia in 1996. Since
graduating I
have had eight solo shows in Perth and one in Sydney and have been
involved in
over 25 group exhibitions. In
1998 I decided to move to Sydney to further my art career. After
several
commissions, I embarked on my first overseas trip to Europe. The
move to Sydney and the overseas journey, profoundly affected my art
which is
reflected in my use of colour, which although previously strong, has
taken on a
new vibrancy through cooler, brighter colours, resulting in a more
honest
interpretation of my art practice. Figures and portraiture are still a
very
important part of my work, along with expressive landscapes and
abstract
images. My new work tells the story of my experiences and how I have
come to
view my surroundings, which I explore through oil paintings and
sculpture. In
2003 I was awarded my first public art commission, focussing on a
maritime
theme, which I completed in 2004 for the Peel Health Campus in
Mandurah,
Western Australia. In
2005 I relocated to Leeds, UK developing local community art projects
in
Bradford and Leeds. In
2006 I began work on a corporate commission for Newmason Properties at
the
Victoria Mills, Bradford, developing work on the theme of old and new
buildings
at the Mills. In
2006 I was awarded a public art commission for the Bromley Hospitals
NHS Trust:
Maternity ward project in Kent.
